形容詞や副詞の中には、erやest、moreやmostを付けるのではなく、不規則に変化して比較級や最上級になるものがあります。

1．good「よい」, well「上手に」 → better（比較級）, best（最上級）

This pen is better than that one.
「このペンは、あのペンよりいい。」

He can speak English better than I..
「彼は、私より上手に英語を話すことができる。」

2．bad「悪い」, ill「病気の」 → worse（比較級）, worst（最上級）

His manner is worse than his brother's.
「彼のマナーは、彼の弟より悪い。」

3．many, much「たくさんの」 → more（比較級）, most（最上級）

I have more books than he has. 「私は、彼よりたくさんの本を持っている。」

4．little「少ない」 → less（比較級）, least（最上級）

There were less people in this room than in that room.
「この部屋には、あの部屋より少ない人がいた。」
「この部屋にいる人の数は、あの部屋より少なかった。」

以下は、不規則に変化する形容詞や副詞の中で2通りの変化があるものです。

5．far「遠い」「遠く」

[距離] → farther（比較級）, farthest（最上級）

[程度] → further（比較級）, furthest（最上級）

This park is farther from my house than that one.
「この公園は、あの公園より私の家から遠い。」

Ken's house is the farthest from here.
「ケンの家がここから一番遠い。」

Let's stop dicussing it further.

6．late「遅い」「遅く」

[時間] → later（比較級）, latest（最上級）

[順序] → latter（比較級）, last（最上級）

I arrived there later than my grilfriend.
「私は、彼女より遅くそこへ到着した。」

He finished working （the） last in my office.
「彼は、私の事務所で一番遅く仕事を終えた。」
